The 2012 Middle School Wrestling season is about to get underway. Signups this week at the middle school with an informational meeting on Thursday, Jan. 12th. Practice will start on January 16th.

Hastings Duals Tournament

In the last tournament of the year, the Saxon Gold and Blue team wrestled at home in the Hastings Duals. The Blue team finished 1 – 3 for the day in 7^th place. While the Gold team wrapped up a perfect season. The Gold team finished the day with a 4- 0 record, which increased their season record to 17 – 0, and the Saxons took ownership of another 1^st place team trophy for the season.

HASTINGS GOLD 90 VS. IONIA 19

In round one, the Gold team defeated Ionia 90 – 19. Saxon wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Draven Pederson and Caleb Engle. Wrestlers who picked up pins for the team were: Danny Hooten, Ben Herbstreith, Clay Coltson, John Hasty, Jason Slaughter, Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger, Austin Clow, Travis Hoffman and Ryan Johnston.
HASTINGS BLUE 24 VS. ALLEGAN 80
The Blue team lost to a tough Allegan team 24 – 80 in round one. Wrestlers winning on pins for the team were Tommy Patterson, Alex Traister and Brendan Coykendall. Ray Johnson won on a void for the team.

HASTINGS GOLD 106 VS. FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 4
The Saxon Gold team met Forest Hills Northern in round two, and quickly shut them down, winning 106 – 4. Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Travis Hoffman and Ryan Johnston won on voids for the team. Wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Mitchell Sarhatt, Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Ben Herbstreith, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Caleb Engle, Jesus Delangel, Jake Sherman, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger and Austin Clow.
HASTINGS BLUE 31 VS. LAKEWOOD 60
In round two, the Blue team lost to Lakewood 31 – 60. Alex Traister won on a pin for the team. Tommy Patterson picked up a 12 – 3 major decision and Ray Johnson had a 9 – 3 decision. Austin Haywood and Jacob Wilgus won on voids for the team. In the exhibition round, Trevor Ryan won on a pin.
HASTINGS GOLD 72 VS. CHARLOTTE 33
Hastings Gold defeated Charlotte 72 – 33 in round three. Winning on voids for the team were Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt and Danny Hooten. Jeremiah Shaffer picked up a 12 – 4 major decision; Tyler Youngs had an 11 – 3 major decision; and, Jason Slaughter had a 12 – 2 major decision. Saxons winning on pins for the team were John Hasty, Caleb Engle, Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger, Ryan Johnston and Travis Hoffman.
HASTINGS BLUE 30 VS. FOREST HILLS CENTRAL 52
Hastings Blue lost to Forest Hills Central 30 – 52. Wrestler getting pins for the team were Ray Johnson, Sam Cappon, Alex Traister and Jared Bailey. Brendan Coykendall won on a void for the team. Tanner Olmstead won on a pin in the exhibition round.
HASTINGS GOLD 60 VS. ALLEGAN 48
In their last match of the year, the Gold team faced Allegan in the finals. The Saxons came back after a 33 point deficit to beat Allegan 60 – 48 and ending their season with a perfect 17 – 0 record and 1st place finishes at each tournament for the year. Alex Beauchamp pulled off an 8 – 7 decision and Travis Hoffman had a 7 – 6 decision. Caleb Engle and Jason Slaughter won on voids for the team. Saxons picking up pins for the team were: Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, Jesus Delangel, Keifer Belanger, Patrick Murphy, Austin Clow and Ryan Johnston.

In the exhibition round, Mitchell Sarhatt had a 15 – 3 win; Alex Beauchamp had an 11 – 0 win; and, Norberto Hernandez picked up a pin.
HASTINGS BLUE 51 VS. FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 48
In the Blue team’s last match of the day, they picked up a win over Forest Hills Northern 51 – 48. Justice Lamance had a 9 – 4 decision. Jared Bailey and Brendan Coykendall won on voids for the team. Ray Johnson won on an injury default. Saxons getting pins for the team were: Levi Trick, Jacob Wilgus, Sam Cappon, Johnny Matzen and Alex Traister. In the exhibition round Tanner Olmstead won on a pin.

HMS vs. Lowell/West Side Christian

In what was to become the team’s closest match of the year, the Saxons wrestled and undefeated Lowell team at East Grand Rapids. With two weight classes to go, the team was down 44 – 45, and came back to win 56 – 45. Wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt and Morgan Tolles. Danny Hooten won on a major decision 14 – 0. Clay Coltson picked up a 10 – 3 decision. Mike Johnston won on an injury default. Winning on pins for the team were: Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger and Ryan Johnston.

In the second match of the night at East Grand Rapids, the Saxons increased their season record to 13 – 0 after defeating West Side Christian 108 – 4. Saxons winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Danny Hooten, Travis Hoffman and Ryan Johnston. Saxon wrestlers getting pins for the team were: Jeremiah Shaffer, Ben Herbstreith, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, John Hasty, Caleb Engle, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Patrick Murphy and Austin Clow.

HMS vs. Comstock Park

The Saxon wrestlers upped their season record to 11 - 0 after defeating Comstock Park at home, 99 - 12. Saxons picking up pins for the team were: Clay Coltson, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Patrick Murphy and Mike Johnston. Austin Clow held on for a tough 5 - 4 decision.

Charlotte Duals

On Saturday, the Hastings Gold and Hastings Blue team travelled to Charlotte. The Gold team went 4 - 0 for the day bringing home another 1st place trophy. The Blue team finished 2 - 2 for the day to finish in 4th place.

In round one, the Gold team had a shut out against Okemos, winning 114 - 0. Saxon wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Draven Pederson, Caleb Engle, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Austin Clow, and Mike Johnston. Wrestlers winning on voids were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Jake Sherman, Pat Murphy, and Ryan Johnston.

The Blue team defeated the Charlotte B team 54 - 24. Wrestlers picking up pins for the team were Levi Trick, Justice Lamance, Austin Haywood, Alex Traister, Sam Eastman, and Brendan Coykendall. Wrestlers picking up wins on voids were: Ray Johnson, Kodey Hinckley, and Jacob Wilgus. Ray Johnson picked up a pin in the exhibition round.

Round two matched up the Hastings Gold team against Charlotte. Hastings Gold won the dual 82 - 36. Saxon wrestlers picking up pins for the team were: Danny Hooten, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy and Ryan Johnston. Wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Caleb Engle, and Mike Johnston.

The Blue team faced Lakewood in round two and picked up a tough loss, 30 - 57. Wrestlers picking up pins for the team were: Levi Trick, Ray Johnson, Sam Cappon, Alex Traister and Sam Eastman. Trevor Ryan pinned his opponent in the exhibition round.

In match three of the day, the Gold team defeated Portland 96 - 12. Saxon wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, John Hasty, Caleb Engle, Jason Slaughter, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow and Mike Johnston. Wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger and Ryan Johnston.

Also, in round three, the Blue team defeated RW Kidder 54 - 6. Wrestlers picking up voids for the team were: Justice Lamance, Ray Johnson, Kodey Hinckley, Austin Haywood, Jacob Wilgus and Lindsey Kuhlman. Alex Traister, Sam Eastman and Brendan Coykendall all had pins for the team.

In the Finals, Hastings Gold wrestled against Lakewood for the first place trophy. Hastings Gold defeated Lakewood 75 - 32, to take home 1st place and increase their dual meet record to 10 - 0. Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp and john Hasty won on voids for the team. Saxons getting pins in the final dual were: Danny Hooten, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow and Mike Johnston. In the final match up of the dual, Ryan Johnston picked up an 8 - 6 decision.

Hastings Blue wrestled in the consolation finals against Charlotte. Blue had a tough 30 - 54 loss, to finish the day in 4th place. Levi Trick won on a void; while, Jacob Wilgus, Alex Traister, Sam Eastman and Brendan Coykendall picked up pins for the team.

Forest Hills/Middleville Quad 3/1/11

The Middle School wrestling team increased it's dual record to 6 - 0 after defeating Forest Hills Central 90-21, and then defeating Middleville in the second match of the night, 72 - 42.

In the first match against Forest Hills Central, Saxon wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, David Hause, Clay Coltson, Tyler Youngs, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, and Austin Clow. Wrestlers picking up wins on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Danny Hooten, Levi Trick, and Ryan Johnston.

In the exhibition round, Justice Lamance picked up a close 5 - 3 win; and, Mike Johnston pulled off a 8 - 4 decision. Tanner Olmstead, Alex Traister, and Sam Eastman all picked up pins.

In the exhibition round, Kodey Hinckley, Jeremy Miller, Tommy Patterson, Jacob Wilgus and Jared Bailey all picked up pins for the night.

Godwin Heights Tournament Results

After the midwinter break and a couple snow days, the Hastings team wrestled at the Godwin Heights in an individual tournament. The Saxons ended up with 31 wrestlers placing in the top 4 of their weight classes.

Wrestlers finishing the day in 4th place were: Alex Beauchamp, Justice Lamance, Tanner Olmstead, Quentin Wigg, Austin Clow, and Brendan Coykendall. Bringing home 3rd place medals for the Saxons were: Austin Haywood, MorganTolles, Tyler Youngs, Sam Eastman, Norberto Hernandez, Mike Johnston, Johnny Matzen, Jeremy Miller and Jeremiah Shaffer.

Wrestlers ending the day in 2nd place were: Sam Cappon, John Hasty, David Hause, Ray Johnson, Tommy Patterson, Jesus Delangel, Ryan Johnston and Alex Traister. 36th Annual Hastings Invitational

At the 36th Annual Hastings Tournament, Hastings took home the 1st place team trophy for the third week in a row. Hastings Gold finished with a total of 279 team points way ahead of 2nd place Hamilton, who finished with 187.50 points for the day. Hastings Blue team finished in 6th place with a total of 91 points. Hastings Gold had all 18 wrestlers place in the top 4! The Blue team had 8 wrestlers placing in the top 4.

Finishing the day in 3rd place for the team were: Alex Beauchamp (75 lbs), David Hause (85 lbs), Clay Coltson (105 lbs), John Hasty (115 lbs), Jesus Delangel (130 lbs), Mike Johnston (155 lbs), Austin Clow (167 lbs), and Brendan Coykendall (250 lbs). In the JV tournament, Hastings had 9 wrestlers competing. Four of those wrestlers placed in the top 4 of their weight class. Johnny Matzen (155 lbs) finished in first place for the Saxons; Sam Cappon (155 lbs) and Shaun Holcomb (250 lbs) finished in 2nd place; and, Norberto Hernandez (250 lbs) finished in 4th place for the day.

Hastings vs. Caledonia

On Thursday, February 17th, the HMS team took on Caledonia at home. The Saxon wrestlers pulled off a win 60 - 42 after trailing 15 - 42 about midway through the match. Winning on pins for the Saxons were: Alex Beauchamp, David Hause, Tyler Youngs, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow and Travis Hoffman. Mitchell Sarhatt picked up a tough 8 - 4 decision; Ryan Johnston had a 19 - 6 major decision; and, Keifer Belanger pulled out a technical fall 20 - 2.

In the exhibition round Justice Lamance had two pins for the night; and, Tommy Patterson, Ray Johnson, Sam Cappon, Mike Johnston, Alex Traister, Trevor Ryan, Jared Bailey, Tyler Youngs, Jesus Delangel, and Caleb Engle all had wins for the Saxons.

Tuesday, Feb. 15th Match Results

Tonight the Hastings Gold and Hastings Blue team wrestled against Gull Lake and Wayland. In the first round, Hastings Gold defeated Wayland 78 - 24. Getting wins on voids for the Gold team were Mitchell Sarhatt, Tyler Youngs, Austin Clow and Travis Hoffman. Winning on pins for the team were: David Hause, Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Ben Herbstreith, Caleb Engle, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, and Ryan Johnston. Jared Bailey and Kodee Hinckley both won on pins in the exhibition round.

In the second match of the night, Hastings Gold defeated Gull Lake 102 - 0. Winning on pins for the team were Danny Hooten, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow, Travis Hoffman and Ryan Johnston. The Hastings Blue team took on Gull Lake in round one of the night and won 78 - 5. Wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Alex Beauchamp, Morgan Tolles, Justice Lamance, Tom Patterson, Ray Johnson, Austin Haywood, Matt Karn, and Jake Sherman. Saxon wrestlers getting pins for the night were Tanner Olmstead, Alex Traister, Mike Johnston, Sam Eastman, and Norberto Hernandez. Sam Eastman picked up a pin in the exhibition round.

In the final match, Hastings Blue defeated Wayland 60 - 27. Winning on pins for the team were Morgan Tolles, Justice Lamance, Matt Karn, Jake Sherman, Tanner Olmstead, Alex Traister, Sam Eastman and Norberto Hernandez. Alex Beauchamp and Mike Johnston won on voids for the team; and, Johnny Matzen and Shaun Holcomb both won on pins in the exhibition round.

Next up, the Saxons will face Pennfield and Caledonia at home on Thursday.

Hillsdale Tournament

In the second tournament of the year, Hastings took two teams - Gold & Blue - to Hillsdale. Out of 16 teams, and 15 schools, the Saxon Gold team finished with 231.5 points, eight points ahead of Dundee, for the first place finish. Hastings Blue finished in 9th place with 83 points.

Saxon wrestlers placing for the team were: Jesus Delangel in 4th place; David Hause, Danny Hooten, Ryan Johnston and Travis Hoffman finished in 3rd place; Mike Johnston and Jake Sherman finished the day in 2nd place; and, Keifer Belanger, Austin Clow and Jason Slaughter finished in 1st place for the day.

First Dual Match - Win Over Newhall

Bellevue Invitational

The Hastings Wrestling team wrestled their first tournament of the year at Bellevue. They took three teams, the White team scored a total of 61 team points for the day. The Gold team finished in 1st place scoring a total of 239 team points. Coming in 2nd place was Hastings Blue scoring a total of 166 team points.

Saxon wrestlers finishing the day in 4th place for the team were: Ray Johnson, Austin Haywood, Norberto Hernandez, Jeremiah Shaffer and Zac Tessin. Hastings wrestlers finishing in 3rd place were: Mitchell Sarhatt, Danny Hooten, Shaun Holcomb, Clay Coltson, Sam Eastman, Caleb Engle, and Alex Traister.

In game 1, the 8th grade Gold team got off to a strong first half against Wyoming Park, leading 14 - 0, but found themselves just short of a win. The Saxons ended with a 14 - 14 tie. The team was led by captains: Sam Eastman, Tyler Endsley, Evan Hart, Travis Hoffman, Mike Johnston, Jason Slaughter and Adam Post. Giving the Saxons a strong start in the first half were Hart and Keifer Belanger, a first year player for the team, who led for a combined 109 yards for the team. Other Saxons gaining yards for the team were: Slaughter, Johnston and Draven Pederson. Scoring for the Saxons were Jason Slaughter, running in two touchdowns, and Travis Hoffman, who added the extra point kick. Leading in tackles on the defensive side were Hart, Slaughter, Post, and Jake Sherman.

Both the 7th & 8th Grade Teams will be hosting Wayland Union & Marshall to a "round robin" scrimmage tonight beginning at 5:00pm tonight. The 7th Grade "Gold" and "Blue" teams will share the field and take their turns playing against both schools and the 8th Grade team will begin their scrimmage at 6:30pm. Come out tonight and show your Saxon Pride as the teams use tonight to fine tune things in preparation of their first season game coming up next Wednesday.

Charlotte Team Duals Tournament

The Saxon Gold team finished the Charlotte Tournament in 1st place, and the Saxon Blue team finished in 3rd place! Good job team!

In the frist round, the Gold team defeated Okemos 108 - 4. Next, in round two, the Gold team beat Charlotte 100 - 9; and, in the final round of their pool, they shut out Dewitt 114 - 0! In the finals, the Saxon Gold team wrestled Lakewood, and finished in 1st place after defeating Lakewood 90 - 21!

The Blue team wrestled Portland in the first round, and finished with a 72 - 21 win. In round two, the Blue team lost to Lakewood, 36 - 66. In the third round, the Blue team defeated Jackson NW 48 - 45, to finish 2nd place in their pool. In the finals round, the Saxon Blue team defeated Charlotte 53 - 42 to finish the day in 3rd place!

Bellevue Tournament

Hastings Gold and Hastings Blue team wrestled at Bellevue. The Gold team finished 1st for the day with a total of 302 team points! The Blue team finished in 3rd place out of 12 teams with a total of 181 team points, which was only 4.5 points behind the 2nd place team.

Hastings Gold place a total of 14 wrestlers in the top 6 of their weight groups, and Hastings Blue had 15 wrestlers that placed. Gold team wrestlers that placed for the team were:

Hastings Wrestling Team takes 1st Place as a team at the Hastings Invitational!!

At the 35th Annual Hastings Invitational, the Saxon wrestling team placed 1st overall, and had 15 wrestlers in the Varsity tournament place in the top 4 of their weight class, and another 15 wrestlers place in the JV tournament.

The Saxon team scored 238 team points, 48 points more than second place West Ottawa, who had 190 points. Delton finished 3rd with 153 poins; Lakewood 4th with 152 points; Middleville 5th with 151 points; Crestwood 6th with 140 points; Forest Hills Northern was 7th with 63 points; and, Union City was 8th with 52 points.

Wrestlers placing 1st in the Varsity tournament were: Aaron Williams (85 lbs), Zach Wilcox (100 lbs), Jason Slaughter (115 lbs), and Nathan Keiser (250 lbs). Placing 2nd for the team was: Nic Schaefer (80 lbs), Logan Bleam (145 lbs), and Nate Pewoski (185 lbs). In 3rd place was Braxton Prill (75 lbs), Josh Ehredt (90 lbs), Ethan Haywood (105 lbs), Mike Mansfield (137 lbs), and Zack Morrison (155 lbs). Finishing in 4th place was Draven Pederson (95 lbs), Lucas Elliot (120 lbs), and Stephen Kendall (130 lbs).

In the JV tournament the following wrestlers placed 1st for their weight class: Marshall Christenson (97 lbs), Jake Sherman (121 lbs), Carson Williams (134 lbs), and Stephen Shaffer (149 lbs). Placing 2nd place for the team was: Ben Herbstreith (97 lbs), Alex Traister (149 lbs), Mike Johnston (158 lbs), and Travis Hoffman (169 lbs). Finishing in 3rd place for the day was: Jeremy Miller (97 lbs), Keegan Harvath (112 lbs), Jesus DelAngel (121 lbs), Keifer Belanger (141 lbs), and Norberto Hernandez (184 lbs). And, Ryan Johsnton finished in 4th place for the day at 169 lbs.

The Saxon wrestlers defeated Caledonia tonight 67 - 25! Wrestlers that picked up pins for the team were: Marshall Christenson, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, William McKeever, Mike Mansfield, Nate Pewoski and Nathan Keiser. Winning on decisions for the team were Mitchell Gee and Stephen Kendall. Josh Ehredt, Josh Darnell and Nic Schaefer all won on voids. Winning matches in the exhibition round were: Jeremy Miller, Caleb Engle, Carson Williams, Jake Sherman, Lucas Elliot, and Patrick Murphy.

The team will wrestle at home this Saturday at the Hastings Invitational.

Hillsdale Tournament - 3rd Place

The Saxon wrestlers travelled to Hillsdale yesterday to wrestle in the Dan Taylor Invitational. This was an individual tournament, in which team scores were kept. The Saxon HMS team, finished the day in 3rd place as a team.

HMS Wrestling 2010

Double Dual on Feb. 11, 2010

On Thursday, the HMS wrestling team wrestled a double dual against Allegan and Newhall.

The Gold team wrestled Allegan in round one and picked up a solid 96 - 10 win. The Blue team wrestled Newhall, and fell short losing to Newhall 34 - 72.

In round two, the Saxon Gold team faced Newhall for a tough 39 - 70 loss. The Saxon Blue team wrestled Allegan and lost with a total score of 36 - 60.

West Michigan Middle School Conference Tournament

The first tournament of the year was at Sparta and was against some tough competition. There were 16 middle school teams at the meet. Hastings brought home the 1st place trophy, and had six wrestlers go 4 - 0 for the day.

Hastings defeated East Grand Rapids in the first round 108 - 0. In round two they met Forest Hills Central, and picked up another win 72 - 24. In the semi-finals round, Hastings went up against a tough Newhall team, and ended up with a 57 - 51 win.

In the finals, Hastings wrestled a very tough Lowell team. About halfway through, the team was down 27 - 45, but wrestled tough to come back for a 51 - 50 win to finish in 1st place for the day.

Saxon Wrestlers Dual Meet Opener

Saxon wrestlers had their first home meet for the year, hosting Delton and Comstock. The Saxon Gold team picked up two wins for the night, and the Blue Team went 1 - 1.

The Gold team wrestled Delton to start off the night and picked up a 78 - 30 win. In the second match of the night, Saxon Gold defeated Comstock 96 - 6.

The Blue team wrestled Comstock in their first match and picked up a 64 - 33 win. Blue team lost a close one, when they wreslted Delton during the second match, and finished with a final score of 44 - 54.

The Saxon Wrestlers will travel to Sparta on Saturday for their first team tournament.

Well it is now time for wrestling season! Practice for the HMS team started a couple of weeks ago, and they are looking for their first meet on Tuesday, February 2nd at the Hastings Middle School - 4:15 pm. The Gold and the Blue teams will both be wrestling against Delton and Comstock.

Johnston, Hoffman, Jaleel Richardson, Jared Bailey, Zach Carpenter, Post, and Austin Clow, rushed for over 200 yards and 77 yards passing to put 29 points on the home scoreboard. Slaughter rushed for 65 yards, had two touchdowns and one extra point; Hart picked up another 63 yards rushing; while M. Johnston picked up 43 yards and another Saxon touchdown and one extra point for the team. Pederson ran for 29 yards; Hoffman had 8 rushing yards, and Herbstreith and Caleb Engle both picked up 6 yards rushing for the night. Post scored another Saxon touchdown on a 50 yard TD pass from Slaughter. Post had a total of two catches with 76 yards for the team. Zach Carpenter kicked one extra point in for the team.

In the last game of the year, the Saxon Gold team defeated Leslie 29 – 8. The Gold defense shut down the Leslie team after the first quarter, holding them to one TD for the night. Leading the team on defense was Jason Slaughter with 5 tackles; Adam Post and Evan Hart both picked up 3 each for the night; and, Ben Herbstreith, Logan Gray, Ryan Johnston, and Travis Hoffman each had 2 a piece. Picking up solo tackles for the team were: Mike Johnston, Jake Zimmerman, and Richard Barbee. Draven Pederson picked off two Blackhawk passes and Herbstreith picked off another one, to make three Saxon interceptions for the night.

Unfortunately, last weeks game against Caledonia/Kraft Meadows was cancelled due to the outbreak of the flu in Hastings and the surrounding communities. At this time, the games have not been rescheduled.

The last game of the season against Leslie will be played at Hastings on October 28th.

Game 5 - Hastings vs. Rogers

The 7th Grade Gold team defeated Rogers 26 - 0 last Wednesday. The team had a strong defensive game with multiple tackles by Ryan Johnston, Mike Johnston, Draven Pederson, Jake Zimmerman, Zach DeJong, Travis Hoffman, Owen Post, Richard Barbee, Logan Gray, Caleb Engle, Austin Clow and Kelton Peabody. On the Saxon defense, Pederson also picked off a pass and picked up a fumble recovery; Engle and R. Johnston also both picked up fumble for the team.

The Saxon offense was led by Evan Hart who scored two of the Saxon touchdowns and had 108 yards rushing for the day. Pederson picked up another 85 yards rushing and one Saxon score, while M. Johnston had the other Saxon touchdown and 21 yards rushing for the day. Zach Carpenter kicked one extra point for the team.

Game 4 - Hastings vs. Wayland

The 7th Grade Saxon gold team defeated Wayland at home last Wednesday night, 14 - 6. Saxons leading the team on offense were Evan Hart, who had 10 carries for 73 yards rushing and one touchdown. Mike Johnston had 13 carries for the team and 70 yards rushing, and Draven Pederson had 6 carries for 39 yards for the day. Ben Herbstreith had one carry for the other Saxon touchdown. Zach Carpenter kicked the extra point for the team.

On defense, the team was led by Adam Post with 8 tackles for the day. Ryan Johnston picked up 5 tackles, and Herbstreith, Hart and M. Johnston all had 4 tackles for the day. Pederson picked up two Saxon fumble recoveries for the day.

Game 3 - Hastings vs. Wayland

The 7th Grade Gold team got back on track last week, with a 39 - 6 win over Wayland White. After an early score by Wayland, the Saxon defense held strong. Jake Zimmerman had three key tackles for the team. Adam Post and Jason Slaughter both picked up a fumble recovery, and Travis Hoffman picked off a Wayland pass for an interception. Leading the defense in tackles were Slaughter with 11, Post and Hoffman with 7, Mike Johnston with 5, Draven Pederson, Evan Hart, and Ryan Johnston each had 4 tackles for the night; and, Ben Herbstreith and Austin Clow had 3 a piece. Logan Gray and Levi Trick both picked up one tackle for the team.

The Saxon team had a great night on offense. Bringing in touchdowns for the team was Hart with two rushing TD's and 94 yards rushing for the night; Draven Pederson ran in another Saxon score and had 43 yards rushing for the night; Slaughter ran in another TD and had 30 yards rushing for the night. Slaughter also connected with Post in the endzone for another two Saxon touchdowns. Post caught 4 passes for the night with a total of 64 yards. Herbstreith ran in one for an extra point, and Zach Carpenter kicked another extra point for the team.

Game 2 - Hastings vs. TK Orange

On Wednesday, the Hastings Gold team traveled to Middleville to take on the TK Orange team. In a tough loss, the Gold team lost to TK 6 - 12. Scoring the lone touchdown for the team was Jason Slaughter, who ran the TD in on a QB keeper on a 5 yard run. Slaughter had 8 carries and 27 yards rushing; Evan Hart had 16 carries for 57 yards rushing; Travis Hoffman racked up 8 carries with 23 yards rushing; Mike Johnston had 3 carries for 24 yards rushing; and, Draven Pederson had 5 carries and 11 yards for the day. Ben Herbstreith picked up a 8 yard punt return for the night.

On defense, the team played hard, holding TK in the second half. Making some great defensive plays were Logan Gray and Ben Herbstreith, who each had two great tackles for the night. Mike Johnston picked up a fumble recovery and Pederson picked off a TK pass and ran back the interception 16 yards for the Saxons. Leading the team in tackles for the night were: Jason Slaughter with 10, Adam Post with 6, Draven Pederson with 5. Ryan Johnston and Travis Hoffman each had four tackles for the night, and Evan Hart and Mike Johnston had another three tackles each.

The Gold team will play away again this week at Wayland.

*Hot off of the Press* information being passed to us from Mr. Murphy...There will be a Football contest this Saturday at Hastings High School's Pierce Field (located behind the school) which is FREE to the kids. The contest is sponsored by the National Football League and the program is called the "NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK (PPK) ". The program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 8 -15 to compete separately against their peers. Boys and girls compete separately. This week our boys will be playing against Thornapple-Kellogg Team "Orange" at 5:00pm on Wednesday at their field. The coaches have been working hard with the boys to get them ready for this week's game. The 7th Grade Gold team lost their first game of the year, in a close matchup against Wyoming Park, 14 - 18. Leading the team in rushing was Evan Hart with 60 yards and 2 Saxon touchdowns. Jason Slaughter ran for 19 yards and Travis Hoffman carried the ball for another 12 yards. Zach Carpenter kicked the extra point for the team.

The team did an excellent job on defense, Slaughter led the team in tackles with 9, Mike Johnston had 8 tackles, Adam Post had 6 for the day, and Draven Pederson, Ben Herbstreith, and Travis Hoffman each had 5 tackles for the day. Hart picked off one interception, while Caleb Engle and Adam Post each picked up a fumble for the team.
