On Wednesday, the Hastings Gold team traveled to Middleville to take on the TK Orange team. In a tough loss, the Gold team lost to TK 6 - 12. Scoring the lone touchdown for the team was Jason Slaughter, who ran the TD in on a QB keeper on a 5 yard run. Slaughter had 8 carries and 27 yards rushing; Evan Hart had 16 carries for 57 yards rushing; Travis Hoffman racked up 8 carries with 23 yards rushing; Mike Johnston had 3 carries for 24 yards rushing; and, Draven Pederson had 5 carries and 11 yards for the day. Ben Herbstreith picked up a 8 yard punt return for the night.

On defense, the team played hard, holding
TK in the second half. Making some great defensive plays were Logan Gray and Ben
Herbstreith, who each had two great tackles for the night. Mike Johnston picked up a fumble recovery and
Pederson picked off a
TK pass and ran back the interception 16 yards for the Saxons.

Leading the team in tackles for the night were: Jason Slaughter with 10, Adam Post with 6,
Draven Pederson with 5. Ryan Johnston and Travis Hoffman each had four tackles for the night, and Evan Hart and Mike Johnston had another three tackles each.
The Gold team will play away again this week at Wayland.

*Hot off of the Press* information being passed to us from Mr. Murphy...There will be a Football contest this Saturday at Hastings High School's Pierce Field (located behind the school) which is FREE to the kids. The contest is sponsored by the National Football League and the program is called the "NFL PUNT, PASS & KICK (PPK) ". The program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 8 -15 to compete separately against their peers. Boys and girls compete separately. The four age classifications are based upon the child's age as of December 31st of the current year. Click HERE to head to the NFL Youth Football home page. To view the rules click HERE. All participants' parents must sign the Entry/Release of Liability before participating in any NFL Pepsi PUNT, PASS & KICK competition, click HERE to download the form. All participants must show proof of age at all levels of competition. Failure to provide a birth certificate or religious document (such as a baptismal record) will result in that participant being ineligible to compete, so please make sure you bring both a signed Entry/Release of Liability form and the required "proof of age" document as requested by the sponsors. This week our boys will be playing against Thornapple-Kellogg Team "Orange" at 5:00pm on Wednesday at their field. The coaches have been working hard with the boys to get them ready for this week's game. Last but not least, come cheer on the team tonight and show your Saxon Pride as they battle against Thornapple-Kellogg Trojans.
