Lowell vs. Hastings

Hastings wrestled Lowell on Thursday and lost a tough match 36 - 63,
bringing their season record to 8 - 2 for the year.

Hastings Wrestling Team takes 1st Place as a team at the Hastings Invitational!!

At the 35th Annual Hastings Invitational, the Saxon wrestling team placed 1st overall, and had 15 wrestlers in the Varsity tournament place in the top 4 of their weight class, and another 15 wrestlers place in the JV tournament.

The Saxon team scored 238 team points, 48 points more than second place West Ottawa, who had 190 points. Delton finished 3rd with 153 poins; Lakewood 4th with 152 points; Middleville 5th with 151 points; Crestwood 6th with 140 points; Forest Hills Northern was 7th with 63 points; and, Union City was 8th with 52 points.

Wrestlers placing 1st in the Varsity tournament were: Aaron Williams (85 lbs), Zach Wilcox (100 lbs), Jason Slaughter (115 lbs), and Nathan Keiser (250 lbs). Placing 2nd for the team was: Nic Schaefer (80 lbs), Logan Bleam (145 lbs), and Nate Pewoski (185 lbs). In 3rd place was Braxton Prill (75 lbs), Josh Ehredt (90 lbs), Ethan Haywood (105 lbs), Mike Mansfield (137 lbs), and Zack Morrison (155 lbs). Finishing in 4th place was Draven Pederson (95 lbs), Lucas Elliot (120 lbs), and Stephen Kendall (130 lbs).

In the JV tournament the following wrestlers placed 1st for their weight class: Marshall Christenson (97 lbs), Jake Sherman (121 lbs), Carson Williams (134 lbs), and Stephen Shaffer (149 lbs). Placing 2nd place for the team was: Ben Herbstreith (97 lbs), Alex Traister (149 lbs), Mike Johnston (158 lbs), and Travis Hoffman (169 lbs). Finishing in 3rd place for the day was: Jeremy Miller (97 lbs), Keegan Harvath (112 lbs), Jesus DelAngel (121 lbs), Keifer Belanger (141 lbs), and Norberto Hernandez (184 lbs). And, Ryan Johsnton finished in 4th place for the day at 169 lbs.

The Saxon wrestlers defeated Caledonia tonight 67 - 25!  Wrestlers that picked up pins for the team were: Marshall Christenson, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, William McKeever, Mike Mansfield, Nate Pewoski and Nathan Keiser. Winning on decisions for the team were Mitchell Gee and Stephen Kendall. Josh Ehredt, Josh Darnell and Nic Schaefer all won on voids. Winning matches in the exhibition round were: Jeremy Miller, Caleb Engle, Carson Williams, Jake Sherman, Lucas Elliot, and Patrick Murphy.


The team will wrestle at home this Saturday at the Hastings Invitational.

Hillsdale Tournament - 3rd Place

The Saxon wrestlers travelled to Hillsdale yesterday to wrestle in the Dan Taylor Invitational. This was an individual tournament, in which team scores were kept. The Saxon HMS team, finished the day in 3rd place as a team.


Wrestlers placing in the tournament were:
Aaron Williams - 1st place - 85lbs
Zach Wilcox - 3rd place - 100 lbs
Jason Slaughter - 2nd place - 115 lbs
Stephen Kendall - 2nd place - 130 lbs
Mike Mansfield - 2nd place - 137 lbs
Logan Bleam - 3rd place - 145 lbs
Zack Morrison - 2nd place - 155 lbs
Mike Johnston - 4th place - 155 lbs
Mitchell Gee - 4th place - 167 lbs
Nate Pewoski - 3rd place - 185 lbs
Nathan Keiser - 2nd place - 250 lbs

HMS Wrestling 2010

Double Dual on Feb. 11, 2010

On Thursday, the HMS wrestling team wrestled a double dual against Allegan and Newhall.

The Gold team wrestled Allegan in round one and picked up a solid 96 - 10 win. The Blue team wrestled Newhall, and fell short losing to Newhall 34 - 72.

In round two, the Saxon Gold team faced Newhall for a tough 39 - 70 loss. The Saxon Blue team wrestled Allegan and lost with a total score of 36 - 60.

West Michigan Middle School Conference Tournament

The first tournament of the year was at Sparta and was against some tough competition. There were 16 middle school teams at the meet. Hastings brought home the 1st place  trophy, and had six wrestlers go 4 - 0 for the day.

Hastings defeated East Grand Rapids in the first round 108 - 0. In round two they met Forest Hills Central, and picked up another win 72 - 24. In the semi-finals round, Hastings went up against a tough Newhall team, and ended up with a 57 - 51 win.

In the finals, Hastings wrestled a very tough Lowell team. About halfway through, the team was down 27 - 45, but wrestled tough to come back for a 51 - 50 win to finish in 1st place for the day.

The team will wrestle against Allegan and Newhall this week at home.

Saxon Wrestlers Dual Meet Opener

Saxon wrestlers had their first home meet for the year, hosting Delton and Comstock. The Saxon Gold team picked up two wins for the night, and the Blue Team went 1 - 1.

The Gold team wrestled Delton to start off the night and picked up a 78 - 30 win. In the second match of the night, Saxon Gold defeated Comstock 96 - 6.

The Blue team wrestled Comstock in their first match and picked up a 64 - 33 win. Blue team lost a close one, when they wreslted Delton during the second match, and finished with a final score of 44 - 54.

The Saxon Wrestlers will travel to Sparta on Saturday for their first team tournament.
