Charlotte Duals

On Saturday, the Hastings Gold and Hastings Blue team travelled to Charlotte. The Gold team went 4 - 0 for the day bringing home another 1st place trophy. The Blue team finished 2 - 2 for the day to finish in 4th place.

In round one, the Gold team had a shut out against Okemos, winning 114 - 0. Saxon wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Draven Pederson, Caleb Engle, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Austin Clow, and Mike Johnston. Wrestlers winning on voids were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Jake Sherman, Pat Murphy, and Ryan Johnston.

The Blue team defeated the Charlotte B team 54 - 24. Wrestlers picking up pins for the team were Levi Trick, Justice Lamance, Austin Haywood, Alex Traister, Sam Eastman, and Brendan Coykendall. Wrestlers picking up wins on voids were: Ray Johnson, Kodey Hinckley,  and Jacob Wilgus. Ray Johnson picked up a pin in the exhibition round.

Round two matched up the Hastings Gold team against Charlotte. Hastings Gold won the dual 82 - 36. Saxon wrestlers picking up pins for the team were: Danny Hooten, John Hasty, Tyler Youngs, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy and Ryan Johnston. Wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Morgan Tolles, Caleb Engle, and Mike Johnston.

The Blue team faced Lakewood in round two and picked up a tough loss, 30 - 57. Wrestlers picking up pins for the team were: Levi Trick, Ray Johnson, Sam Cappon, Alex Traister and Sam Eastman. Trevor Ryan pinned his opponent in the exhibition round.

In match three of the day, the Gold team defeated Portland 96 - 12. Saxon wrestlers winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, Danny Hooten, Jeremiah Shaffer, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, John Hasty, Caleb Engle, Jason Slaughter, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow and Mike Johnston. Wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger and Ryan Johnston.

Also, in round three, the Blue team defeated RW Kidder 54 - 6. Wrestlers picking up voids for the team were: Justice Lamance, Ray Johnson, Kodey Hinckley, Austin Haywood, Jacob Wilgus and Lindsey Kuhlman. Alex Traister, Sam Eastman and Brendan Coykendall all had pins for the team.

In the Finals, Hastings Gold wrestled against Lakewood for the first place trophy. Hastings Gold defeated Lakewood 75 - 32, to take home 1st place and increase their dual meet record to 10 - 0. Dylan Lawrence, Alex Beauchamp and john Hasty won on voids for the team. Saxons getting pins in the final dual were: Danny Hooten, Tommy Patterson, Clay Coltson, Draven Pederson, Jason Slaughter, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow and Mike Johnston. In the final match up of the dual, Ryan Johnston picked up an 8 - 6 decision.

Hastings Blue wrestled in the consolation finals against Charlotte. Blue had a tough 30 - 54 loss, to finish the day in 4th place. Levi Trick won on a void; while, Jacob Wilgus, Alex Traister, Sam Eastman and Brendan Coykendall picked up pins for the team.

Forest Hills/Middleville Quad 3/1/11

The Middle School wrestling team increased it's dual record to 6 - 0 after defeating Forest Hills Central 90-21, and then defeating Middleville in the second match of the night, 72 - 42.

In the first match against Forest Hills Central, Saxon wrestlers winning on pins for the team were: Alex Beauchamp, Mitchell Sarhatt, David Hause, Clay Coltson, Tyler Youngs, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Jake Sherman, Keifer Belanger, Pat Murphy, and Austin Clow.  Wrestlers picking up wins on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Danny Hooten, Levi Trick, and Ryan Johnston.

In the exhibition round, Justice Lamance picked up a close 5 - 3 win; and, Mike Johnston pulled off a 8 - 4 decision. Tanner Olmstead, Alex Traister, and Sam Eastman all picked up pins.

Wrestlers picking up pins in the second match of the night were: Mitchell Sarhatt, David Hause, Danny Hooten, Jesus Delangel, Jason Slaughter, Pat Murphy, Austin Clow, Travis Hoffman and Ryan Johnston. Saxons winning on voids for the team were: Dylan Lawrence, Tyler Youngs and Keifer Belanger.

In the exhibition round, Kodey Hinckley, Jeremy Miller, Tommy Patterson, Jacob Wilgus and Jared Bailey all picked up pins for the night.

Godwin Heights Tournament Results

After the midwinter break and a couple snow days, the Hastings team wrestled at the Godwin Heights in an individual tournament. The Saxons ended up with 31 wrestlers placing in the top 4 of their weight classes.

Wrestlers finishing the day in 4th place were: Alex Beauchamp, Justice Lamance, Tanner Olmstead, Quentin Wigg, Austin Clow, and Brendan Coykendall. Bringing home 3rd place medals for the Saxons were: Austin Haywood, MorganTolles, Tyler Youngs, Sam Eastman, Norberto Hernandez, Mike Johnston, Johnny Matzen, Jeremy Miller and Jeremiah Shaffer.

Wrestlers ending the day in 2nd place were: Sam Cappon, John Hasty, David Hause, Ray Johnson, Tommy Patterson, Jesus Delangel, Ryan Johnston and Alex Traister. And, wrestlers bringing home the championship 1st place medals were: Danny Hooten, Mitchell Sarhatt, Keifer Belanger, Caleb Engle, Travis Hoffman, Patrick Murphy, Jake Sherman and Jason Slaughter.

36th Annual Hastings Invitational

At the 36th Annual Hastings Tournament, Hastings took home the 1st place team trophy for the third week in a row. Hastings Gold finished with a total of 279 team points way ahead of 2nd place Hamilton, who finished with 187.50 points for the day. Hastings Blue team finished in 6th place with a total of 91 points. Hastings Gold had all 18 wrestlers place in the top 4! The Blue team had 8 wrestlers placing in the top 4.

Wrestlers bringing home 2nd place medals were: Morgan Tolles (85 lbs), Danny Hooten (90 lbs), Jeremy Miller (110 lbs), Tyler Youngs (125 lbs), Jake Sherman (137 lbs), and Sam Eastman (185 lbs).

Finishing the day in 3rd place for the team were: Alex Beauchamp (75 lbs), David Hause (85 lbs), Clay Coltson (105 lbs), John Hasty (115 lbs), Jesus Delangel (130 lbs), Mike Johnston (155 lbs), Austin Clow (167 lbs), and Brendan Coykendall (250 lbs). Saxons  bringing home 4th place finishes were: Jeremiah Shaffer (95 lbs), Ben Herbstreith (100 lbs), Tommy Patterson (105 lbs), Austin Haywood (110 lbs), Caleb Engle (120 lbs), and Tanner Olmstead (145 lbs).

In the JV tournament, Hastings had 9 wrestlers competing. Four of those wrestlers placed in the top 4 of their weight class. Johnny Matzen (155 lbs) finished in first place for the Saxons; Sam Cappon (155 lbs) and Shaun Holcomb (250 lbs) finished in 2nd place; and, Norberto Hernandez (250 lbs) finished in 4th place for the day.
